Katya Nadine Awar is a Lebanese author and award-winning screenwriter. She is best known for writing and creating The Nightmare Diaries, which won Best Horror, Psychological Thriller at Film Fest LA in 2024. 

 

Katya's writing was initially inspired by the fandoms of One Direction, Big Time Rush, and a group of social media stars collectively known as Magcon. At 12 years old, she posted stories through online forums and Instagram comment sections before eventually publishing chapters on the Wattpad app. She finished her debut novel Soulmate with over 433,000 reads.

Katya attended Northeastern University where she majored in Media and Screen Studies with minors in English and Musical Theatre. In her senior year, Katya attended her first screenwriting class where a  Professor encouraged her to pursue film school after seeing her potential. During a two month mentorship with this Professor, Katya wrote The Nightmare Diaries (feature) and re-edited and published Soulmate on Amazon in order to meet film school application deadlines.

Katya attended Chapman University Dodge College of Film and Media Arts where she earned an MFA in Television Writing and Producing. She has interned for talent agent Patricia Quinn, IPG Literary Management, Manage-Ment, Rideback, and Voltage Pictures. Through her courses, Katya filmed a television adaptation of The Nightmare Diaries for her thesis project, wrote a television adaptation of her novel Soulmate, and wrote a horror adaptation of J.M. Barrie's Peter Pan.

Katya is now working as a West Coast Page at NBCUniversal. She dreams of writing in the YA drama and horror genres, hopefully making someone's favorite show one day.
